The Knoxville Nationals is an annual World of Outlaws sprint car event held at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. The event is considered the premiere event in the series, and is nicknamed "Granddaddy of them all." Steve Kinser has won the event twelve times, and owner Karl Kinser has graced victory lane fourteen times with three different drivers. In 2005 Steve's son Kraig Kinser won this event, making Steve and Kraig the very first father and son to win the Knoxville Nationals. The 46th Annual Knoxville Nationals occured in 2006 and was the second time since 1991 a driver without the last name of Kinser or Lasoski won this event, Donny Schatz finally won after four second place finishes. Dave Blaney was the first to win in 1997 and did not defend his title the follwoing year.
